Testimony

Honestly, I struggle with motivation and if it wasn't for my husband also working out, I would probably be a couch potato. I do find it easier joining a group workout though, I find having like minded people there to "egg me on" a great motivator

Becky

What motivates you to get up and train?

I have been involved in fitness for around 6 years and can be classed as a late entrant. I started with a hefty gym membership, doing two classes a week followed by covid home workouts, then I joined the ROAR family.

How long have you been into fitness?

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I have minimal "down time" I enjoy camping, walking and relaxing in front of the TV with a nice glass of red and maybe a bar of cadbury's!

Favourite exercise or class at ROAR?

If I really had to choose a favourite class with ROAR it would be Boxfit. It must be the feeling of punching something/someone. In truth though, I really enjoy them all and would recommend every one.

I have been working out with ROAR now for almost a year with only a few holiday weeks off.

ROAR is definitely helping me with my physical and mental goals. I am lifting more, burning more calories and feel good mentally too. The group that workout are all so friendly, welcoming and supportive.

I heard about ROAR through a friend and am so glad I turned up the first time.

Adam

I want to stay in the best shape I can be so that I feel good about myself. I don't always look forward to training as the sofa looks a lot comfier. But I do know that I feel so much better after a workout, so I think about that to motivate me to go train.

Probably about 6 years. We had 'Workout Wednesdays' start up at work where our boss was very kindly let us workout for an hour at the end of the day and a PT came and gave us a workout. I lost few stones and got hooked.

I coach grassroots football for my son's teams in Groby. I spend time with the family, DIY and build & fly radio controlled airplanes.

I like the variety that ROAR provide. I had never done a kettlebell class before which was good but I think my favourite is BoxFit with Circuits being a close second.

For about 10 months now.

Yes definitely. Training with other people always pushes me as you are all doing all the same thing and the advice from the trainers is great as just the smallest of posture/body position change during an exercise has a massive effect on the muscles you are working.

My wife started first and really liked it, so we both joined!

Beki

The after value you get from exercise is my biggest motivation. Although after a busy day, sometimes the last thing I want to do is exercise but knowing that once the session is done I feel 10 times better always spurs me on.

I would say more so since having my first child 7 years ago. I felt I needed to do some form of exercise, though it's always been a bit of a stop/start.

I spend most of my spare time with my family and catching up with friends.

I like the variety that ROAR provides. I like that there is always a lot of stations when doing circuits, so you are never doing the same thing for long. I also enjoy the Boxfit sessions to mix it up a bit.

I went to some of the taster sessions back when ROAR began and have tried to go as much as I can since.

Yes definitely. As I say, my fitness journey has always been quite the stop/start but since joining ROAR I have definitely got into more of a routine of exercising. Everyone is really friendly which creates a nice atmosphere to train in.

I also think that the 'ROAR Cubs' is a great idea, I don't think there are many classes that offer you the chance to take your children along with you.

My friend attended some of the very first sessions and asked if I wanted to join her.

Sarah

For me I think there is no better feeling than the one you get after a workout, physically and mentally.

No matter how grey the mornings are or how grim your day has been, a workout is sure to make you feel better.

I have always been quite an active person and enjoy running, however as I have got older, I have become very aware your body is not as kind to you as it once was and the need for exercise is much greater.

With three  kids life is quite busy. I like to go for a run or so something creative and meeting up with friends and family is a must.

My favourite class is circuits.  I enjoy the weight training aspect and the running in between.

I started going to ROAR sessions last year and really enjoyed it but work commitments meant I had to stop but I have been back for a while now and love it!

ROAR has helped me so much, the idea of going to a gym has always been quite daunting to me and even my first ROAR session I was unsure what to expect but it was great. The trainers were very nice and informative and everyone was so friendly, encouraging each other! As painful as it is at times there's always time for a giggle.

My sister went and told me how great it was.

Vanessa

My family. My children are very active with swimming, football and running so I love setting an example to them. I find the classes really help with my mood and mental health.

ROAR has a great team atmosphere and I feel that I can go at my own pace but it's nice to have the encouragement of others too.

I've always enjoyed classes and running. I love the feeling of completing a class or run and feeling that my general fitness is improving.

With three young children, a lot of the time it's about what they have on but I go for dinner every Wednesday with my friends. I love going for family walks with our puppy Izzy and I'm partial to a posh coffee and cake!

I started with ROAR in January and I can honestly say every class feels different as there's a range of exercises and challenges

In the school playground! the school mums were all talking the day after a class about how much they enjoyed the classes and how their fitness was improving so I thought I'd see for myself.

My favourite has to be circuits. I enjoy running so I love the combination of weights, running and exercises. I do enjoy the variety that ROAR has to offer as I like to do kettlebells and Boxfit every so often.

The enjoyment while working out and the mental battle of just pushing myself that little bit further each rep, lap or time I work out. The buzz I get after and that 'feeling good' factor of knowing that I have pushed and work hard towards improving my fitness.

With both my daughters activities and social lives being more hectic than mine, my spare time is very limited but when I do have it, I like to spend it catching up with friends for coffee and cake or dinner. Spending time with my family going for walks, going out for the day all together or chilling and watching a family movie.

I started ROAR back in October 2022 as Vanessa and I took the leap to swap our weekly Tuesday walks to burning more calories instead. The ROAR family was (and is) so welcoming and they instantly and made me feel part of the team from week 1. We are all a mixture of fitness abilities and levels but everybody is so supportive of one another and always there offering encouragement. Wing and Lee are on hand to push me that extra mile when I think I want to give up. Each session I attend never fails to make me laugh or bring a smile to my face.

As a child I was always active doing some activity after school or at a weekend. Then I hit the teenage and adult years and become more active on drinking, going out and dancing!! When I became a mum in my late 20s and  early 30s to my daughters, all my exercise compiled of running around after them, regular walks and trips to the park.

In 2021 I decided to challenge myself physically and mentally by starting the 'Couch to 5k' programme with the goal to complete the programme within the 9 week time frame. Once completed, I continued to run 3 times a week for another 4 months.........then winter hit and I stopped! I started walking at the beginning of 2022 with a colleague who I work with, Vanessa (who also attends ROAR) where we would walk 4-6 miles each week on a Tuesday evening, we would have a good gossip and do something active at the same time.

I never really set any particular goals when I first joined ROAR, I think for me as I hadn't been to a gym or even done any exercise in years, it was more about doing something I enjoyed while trying to get fit. As time has gone on, I have noticed slight changes with the strength in my arms and legs that I didn't have before and also the increase in my fitness as a whole - So making me achieve goals without even realising it.

It's 100% smashed the fun and enjoyment part I did set out to achieve though, ROAR is friendly, supportive and has great Banta!!

It's a tough choice but I think Boxfit just edges it for me but very closely followed by circuits. Boxfit is a good release when perhaps I've had a stressful day. Circuits offers a range of different exercises that works different parts of the body, so I feellike I've had a good workout at the end of that session!

Lee kept encouraging me to join at the beginning and early days of ROAR when we would see each other on the school runs or at kids parties but I was always seem to be giving reasons not to join "not enough time" "clashes with my daughters activities" "got stuff on" etc. Then when I mentioned to Vanessa about swapping our Tuesday walks to giving ROAR a shot there was no hesitation. I look back now and think what took me so long!!

I like to see the progress I make physically and how positive it makes me feel. Having a good gym routine really helps me stay focused and has a positive impact on me mentally as well as physically.

I've always had a passion for fitness even at a young age. In my teenage years I used to swim for Leicester and since then I regularly go to the gym. I recently even started pole fitness which has massively helped with my upper body strength.

When I'm not training or working you'll find me socialising with friends and pulling out my old party tricks....the worm. I also like the simple things in life, a nice walk, going out for food and drinks.

I really enjoy circuits training as it works different muscle groups and burns lots of calories. Although I'm very active, I do a lot more weight training at the gym so doing circuit training is a good way of incorporating some cardio into my routine.

I've been attending ROAR classes since the back end of 2022 and really enjoy it and will definitely continue attending.

Absolutely. Everyone is so motivating and pushes you and nobody judges you which is essential when starting anywhere new. I've never boxed before in my life and even after a couple of sessions, I've noticed a difference in my form and I really enjoy it. Watch out though, I have a mean right hook!

I think as we get older it is as important as ever to stay as fit and healthy as possible. I enjoy the positives that exercise brings for mental health as well as physical health. The welcoming team and trainers at ROAR make it an enjoyable and positive class.

I've always been an active person and have attended circuit classes for a number of years and to still be able to achieve this is important to me. If any exercise is not suitable then it can be adapted to suit.

On Mondays I go walking with the family all year round. It is a lovely way to catch up and also keep us fit. I love spending time with family and seeing my grandchildren who never fail to make me smile.

My favourite class is circuit training as it's a varied class of exercises plus I like the running in between stations. No matter how many times I do it, it never gets boring or any easier either!

Attending ROAR classes helps me maintain a good level of fitness and also pushes me more to train harder with a group. I find it to be a non judgemental class that has friendly trainers and members.

Being physically active has a massive impact both mentally and physically, it also helps me to get a good night's sleep.

How did you hear about ROAR?

I've always been active but since having a family I often drift in and out of different exercise classes and finding it hard to juggle work, childcare and commit long term.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with friends and family, camping, riding my bike and have recently taken up ice skating lessons.

Favourite class at ROAR has to be circuits! There is always a variety of exercises and I know I have had a work out the next day.

Having a young family, it's difficult to priorities time for yourself to exercise. Thanks to ROAR I can commit to every week by bringing the kids along to ROAR Cubs. The kids love ROAR Cubs so much they never let me miss a session.

Whenever I bumped into Manisha on the school run, she would tell me how great the sessions were and how I could bring the kids along too.

Since having kids, I've dipped in and out of different types of training whether it's aerobics, Zumba, boxing running or circuits.

Socialising with family and friends. I'm a fully fledged footy mum and nothing makes me happier than watching my kids play sports.

They were offering classes at the park whilst my son had football training there, so it was a no brainier as I was there anyway.

My favourite would have to be Saturday morning weights circuit training. It's a love/hate thing but it really sets me up for the weekend. I also feel a lot stronger than when I started.

it's been about a year - although I took winter off

It has really helped as I certainly feel stronger and more toned.

Feeling fit and strong is what motivates me, being active benefits me both physically and mentally.
